Updates From GWL Village Hall

March 26, 2018

2018 / 2019 Village Budget

As the Village Board and staff work to finalize the upcoming budget, we just received some great news from the NYS Comptroller’s Office. For the second year in a row, the Village of Greenwood Lake received a 0% fiscal stress rating from the Comptroller’s office (best score possible). The Comptroller’s Office uses the following data to draw their fiscal stress conclusions: Year-end fund balance (our savings account), operating deficits, cash positions, short-term flow debt, personal services salaries and employee benefit management as well as overall debt services throughout the year. I will say that maintaining zero fiscal stress in all these measures is challenging to achieve in a perfect year. Your municipality was able to achieve this while investing in new parks, infrastructure investments worth over $500,000, a new DPW truck, pedestrian safety measures, expanded youth services, expanded recreation, health and wellness activities as well as robust tourism operations. We have sought grants whenever possible, we have stretched a dollar as far as it will go, and as a team, we have run this municipality as we would run our homes – efficiently and with both long-term sustainability and effective management as top priorities.
