Incredible Weekend in GWL!

This past weekend, Greenwood Lake pulled together community events which remind us why we should be so proud to be Lakers. Kicking off a celebratory weekend Friday night was our 4th annual Greenwood Lake Gives Back food pantry fundraiser held at Murphys. This event raised over $3,000 and 3 truckloads of food for our food pantry. Thank you so much to our host, Murphy’s Tavern and their great staff as well as Deputy Mayor Kelli Kelm, a co-coordinator of the event, thank you to our live band Spitball Parade, all of the several dozen businesses who donated prizes and resources, the many sponsors of the event, all who came and of course, thank you to event Chairman Bill Cerone. Job well done by all!

Other events throughout the weekend which embodied community support, service and pride were the annual Santa Breakfast sponsored by the Greenwood Lake Girl Scout Troops 652 & 427 at the Elks Lodge on Saturday. Johnny Ciao, local celebrity used his fame and expertise to coordinate a highly successful Toys for Tots Toy Drive at the American Legion on Saturday.

On Sunday, we had an incredible showing at this year’s second annual Vendor Fair coordinated by my wife, Colleen Dwyer. Hundreds turned out for the event and I would like to thank everyone involved, especially the Church of the Good Shepherd for allowing us use of the property for the event. Thank you to the Chamber of Commerce for sponsoring photos with Santa, and of course, thank you to Santa for making the day extra special. Several performances kicked off the holiday lightings of the Menorah and Christmas Tree. M’Lanie Hunter Dance School kicked it off, followed by the local cub and Girl Scouts, then concluding with our Middle School Choir run by Laura Kroll. Thank you so much to our DJ, Bob Whytock, Congregation B’Nai Torah, the GWL Ambulance Corp, Fire Department and our local PD for their support. Thank you to the GWL Village Board, members of the Town Board, Father Sweeney from Holy Rosary Church, and School Superintendent Dr. Christine Ackerman for attending the festivities. I would like to thank Deputy Mayor Kelli Kelm and Village Clerk Pat Olsen for their help in coordinating the event and a special thank you to local business-owner Damian Levin of Hickory Tree Service for adding the additional lighting for this year’s Christmas Tree.
