From the Mayor’s Office
Thanks to the GWL Lions Club
With a myriad of selfless organizations in this community, it is difficult for one to stand out among their peers. However, I would argue that that GWL Lions Club has done a fine job of just that. Similar to some other organizations, the Lions do not have a building or a “home”, they give 100% of their money raised back into the community and every hour spent as a Lion is dedicated to community service. It is truly a service organization like no other. The Lions have continued to sponsor events, programs, activities and needed products and items for our youth and senior citizens. This past week, the GWL Lions hosted their second Children’s Concert of the year at our beach. While there, they gave away free snow cones to everyone in attendance. In addition, the Lions kicked in $200 toward the purchase of a new TV for our local Senior Citizens Center. Over the years, the Lions have donated more than many of us will ever know. The problem, however, is that the Lions are having trouble recruiting new members. More and more members, such as me, are having trouble dedicating the necessary amount of time to the club while maintaining the many other demanding responsibilities of life. So this is a call to action – If you want to give back to your community, contribute your time, ideas, sweat and dedication to a great cause, please, consider joining the GWL Lions Club. If you would be interested in joining the Lions Club, you may do so by sending me an email at email@example.com. Please also consider joining the Lions at the annual 300 Club Chicken BBQ on September 13th at the Elks Lodge. For tickets, email me at the above address.
