Mayor Dwyer’s Column
Greenwood Lake Mayor
By Jesse Dwyer
I have stated before, in previous columns that the New York state government expects a government efficiency plan from local municipalities in June. I believe the Village of Greenwood Lake has been working on one long before this request came down from bureaucrats in Albany. There have been consolidation and mergers of services, elimination of staff positions, reductions in expenditures to match the reductions in state and federal aid, vigorous employee negotiations to match the levy limit restrictions, curbed expectations for infrastructure repairs as a result of our limited spending abilities, and we have also begun the re-write of our comprehensive plan which does have a financial management component and creates a road map for efficiency. But, the NYS government wants us to utilize the time of our employees and clerks to let them know what we’re doing to make government more efficient. I would like to ask them, in in Albany, what they’re doing to make their budget more efficient, their staff more lean, and their actions more transparent. However, the Board will comply with the request and we will present to the state our continued plan for making our government more efficient. This, like all other budget items, will be made available to the public for review.
