The cold is expected to continue right through the weekend. The Village has received numerous reports of frozen water lines. Here are some precautionary measures to protect from frozen pipes. Nothing is guaranteed in these unprecedented conditions.
-Run water from BOTH hot and cold. Let trickle depending on your situation. Some pipes require more than a trickle.
-Open cabinet doors where pipes may be. This will allow the warm air from your home to circulate. If you have basement doors or rooms with pipes that may freeze, keep the door open.
-Turn up the thermostat a bit. The cost of a little extra heat for one week will be far less than the potential pipe bursting or the inconvenience of having no water.
If you have any major issues, such as a visible water leaking from frozen pipes or if you are simply not getting water, you must contact a plumber and if the water to the home must be shut off, the plumber will contact our water department.
