Greenwood Lake Mayor

Car Seat Questions?
Greenwood Lake is full of young families, like my own. Just recently, my wife and I debated the “right” age and size that our 4 year old daughter should be when we switch from a traditional car seat to a booster seat system. Naturally, I lost the argument. But the point is, we had questions about car seats. You may have questions too. The Greenwood Lake Police Department is hosting a car seat safety inspection day to ensure that you are properly and safely traveling with your most prized possessions—your children. The inspection will take place on Sat., Sept 20th at the GWL Police Station at 16 Church St. from 10:00a.m. – 1:00 p.m. The event is sponsored by the NY State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and the Windermere Insurance Agency.
Traffic Safety Assistance from the NYS DOT
After months of prodding, we have finally been able to meet with and strike a deal with the NYs Department of Transportation to improve the safety for pedestrians along the state owned highways throughout Greenwood Lake. We went over the limited number of cross walks, the poor location of some of our current cross walks (some heading directly into curbs), replacing some of the many sunken catch basins, and improving signage for people crossing at designated cross walks. Unfortunately, when dealing with the State government they work at, well, the State’s pace. We are looking to have fully updated and redrawn crosswalks along Windermere and Jersey Avenue by the spring of 2015. Hopefully by then, all of the catch basins and pot holes along the state highway will have been replaced / repaired as well.

Great to improve the sidewalks! Is there any possibility of establishing a walking/bike path around the arm of the lake in this initiative?
