Mayor Dwyer’s Column
Greenwood Lake Mayor
By Jesse Dwyer
Once again, the Village will be shutting off the aerators on the lake during the winter months. This is a precautionary measure to ensure that wildlife as well as human lives are not put at any manmade risk when walking on the ice. The ice is unsafe and we do not want to make it more unsafe. The Village Board does not encourage people to be on the ice, but we know and understand that many people will utilize the opportunity to enjoy something spectacular – winter fun on a frozen GreenwoodLake. Just please, be safe and let’s hope for a good freeze!
This past week, the Village Board, along with our engineers, Fusco Engineering, submitted grant proposals to the Federal government for grants exceeding $800,000 for hazard mitigation projects to be done within the Village. We applied for two generator grants – one for the emergency and utility gas/ diesel pumps at our DPW and one for a storm shelter which would be located at the GWL Elks Lodge. The second grant that we submitted would alleviate the massive flooding issues that the Lakelands area has been seeing in the recent decades. I will keep the Village apprised of all progress with these grants.
Wah Ta Wah Park Gas Lines
This winter, some residents of WTWPark will be enjoying the benefits of natural gas. The installation of natural gas lines connecting Second Road of WTWPark to O&R’s system is nearly complete. The work on the installation is finished but now we are hoping to have the road paved immediately before asphalt becomes unavailable during the winter. The infrastructure of our Village is extremely important and we appreciate that O&R was able to perform these tasks at no cost to the Village.
