Mayor Dwyer’s Column

September 16, 2013

The storm that we saw in the Village last week may have been brief, but it was extremely powerful. The quickness and ferocity with which the storm came into our Village made things extremely challenging for both residents and first responders. I would like to note, however, that seeing firsthand I can confidently say that our first responders: Police, Fire, EMS and do not forget our DPW, all were prepared and handled the severity of the storm, and its impact, like true professionals. I would also like to extend my sincerest appreciation to the O&R crews who were in the Village within minutes of the storm removing trees from atop wires and working through the night to restore power within the Village.

DPW and grounds crews will be going around all week picking up brush and assisting residents. If you are having any issues or need assistance, please, contact Village Hall at 477-9215.

I would like to conclude with a stern word of caution. Storms are coming and going much more frequently these days. It also seems apparent that the severity of these storms is increasing exponentially. I urge all residents to always be prepared with emergency items such as batteries, flashlights, matches, drinking water, several days worth of non-perishable food items and a plan. If warnings come across indicating that a storm is imminent, take the warnings seriously and prepare yourself.
