Mayor’s Column

June 17, 2013

There are many things happening in GWL right now – be sure that you take some time to stop and check them out. Last week GWL finally opened the doors of our very first teen center. Thanks to the idea of many over the years, and the eventual hard work of several such as Pam Jennings, Walter Cisek, the dedicated members of our GWL Coalition and Father Bob of Holy Rosary Church, we now have a much needed teen center for our youth. Cablevision has completed most of its landscaping and shrub planting, paving, and will begin the exterior work this week. Cablevision has a deadline of late July early August for completion. After meeting with Cablevision last week, they have agreed to put in a sidewalk along the frontage, finally allowing pedestrians to safely walk along that stretch of the road.

Boating season has officially begun. I would like to personally ask that all boaters be respectful toward non-motorized boats, especially the very narrow shells of our East Arm Rowing Club. Even the smallest wake can make a very dangerous challenge for our rowers. Please follow all posted law markers and respect ALL no wake zones. With that, enjoy the water and cherish the beautiful lake that we are all so lucky to have.
